Sheltered Workshop Taiping

Training
This training unit provides programs for the intellectually disabled including self-help skills, vocational training, sheltered
workshop and job placements that focuses on the individuals to achieve a normalized, independent life to the fullest
extent possible. Jobs have been successfully secured for 108 disabled people. Handicraft and sewing classes run on
ad-hoc basis and has been active since 2003. The trainees are trained to create useful skills in order to generate
income. We also run activities packaging biscuits from a factory or factories. Gardening of herbal plants, vegetables and
flowers are carried out successfully in our sheltered workshop.

Sales Promotion
We have a booth at the Taiping Zoo and a shop (MPT) to promote products soft toys, cushions, door mats, assorted
bundle items, car mats (weaving), key chains etc. made by disabled workers from our sheltered workshop.

Recycling (Thrift Shop)
The recycling unit started in 2010 with the vision to encourage the disabled to become self-confident and independent.
This unit provides employment opportunities for the intellectually disabled. The training takes on a simple concept,
that is the intellectually challenged under the supervision of the Instructors.

Sheltered Job Placement
Jobs have been successfully secured for 50 disabled females and 58 disabled males from Bengkel Perlindungan
Semangat Maju Taiping. Our sheltered workshop has successfully emplaced a total of 30 participants in private sector
companies such as Bukit Merah Lake Town, schools, hospitals, foodstalls and factories etc.,thus enabling them to enjoy
extra income apart from the government’s Social Welfare Department allowance ( EPC) . We also help by assisting
the disabled to obtain the government social welfare cards (OKU card) and the EPC , provide counseling and advice
as well as job placement training for the disabled in our community.
